Wichita police: 3 dead in murder-suicide, 2 officers wounded

WICHITA, Kan. | Three people died in a murder-suicide that followed a hostage standoff in which two police officers were wounded, police said today.

Officers burst into a second-floor apartment in northeast Wichita at about 3 a.m. Wednesday and found the bodies of two men and one woman, deputy police chief Robert Lee said at the scene.

Earlier, two officers were called to investigate a disturbance in the apartment. They heard gunfire and were both shot as they approached the front door of the apartment.

One of the officers was in surgery with a gunshot wound to the lower torso and the second was shot in the leg, police said.

Their conditions are not being released.
