Charges expected after accident injures 12-year-old, kills dog

Kansas City police today were preparing a case file against a suspected drunken driver who hit and seriously injured a 12-year-old boy Sunday night.

The boy was riding his motorized scooter along with his dog about 9:40 p.m. near 6th Street and Indiana Avenue when a westbound Chevrolet Cavalier struck the boy and dog.

The impact knocked the boy and dog about 20 feet away. The Cavalier then struck a concrete wall.

Police arrested the driver and said he was intoxicated. The Cavalier had been stolen from a woman in a carjacking June 30 at 11th Street and the Paseo.

Officers had to euthanize the dog, because of the dog's injuries.
