KC woman wins Boston Pops talent search

Call her a Pops star.

Maria Perry of Kansas City beat out two other finalists Thursday night to win the Boston Pops Orchestra's 2007 Popsearch talent competition.

Perry, 52, impressed judges at Boston's Symphony Hall with her rendition of "Not While I'm Around" from the musical "Sweeney Todd." Of the three finalists, she was the only one from outside Massachusetts.

Perry wins $5,000, will be featured as a guest artist on the orchestra's summer tour and will sing at the Pops' celebrated Fourth of July concert. An hour of that will be shown on CBS, but not the Popsearch segment.

The Popsearch competition went national for the first time this year, with hopefuls including Perry submitting audition videos on YouTube.com.
