Liberty City Hall was evacuated this morning after public works employees recovered what appears to be a pipe bomb.
No injuries have been reported, and police have ordered sand bags and cleared surrounding parking lots within 100 yards of the city hall.
The device was discovered about 9 a.m. in a rural part of the city. The workers recovered the device and brought it to City Hall, where the police headquarters is also located, said Lt. Mark Misenhelter, spokesman for the Liberty Police Department.
Police officials ordered city hall evacuated as a precaution. The Kansas City bomb and arson unit has been summoned to examine the device and possibly destroy it, Misenhelter said.
