Tonganoxie authorities still searching for assault suspect

Tonganoxie police reported no progress this morning in their hunt for a man wanted for questioning in a beating and assault in Topeka.

Mike Vestal, who is Tonganoxie’s mayor and police dispatcher, said the search has produced no new leads on Errol Mustafa Sutton, whom Topeka police have described as extremely dangerous. Citizens are urged to call 911 if they have information about his whereabouts.

A man matching Sutton’s description was spotted by Tonganoxie police about 3 a.m. Friday near a Sonic drive-in. However, the man fled when the officer approached.Vestal said the man may still be on foot as no vehicle thefts had been reported in Leavenworth County overnight or this morning.

The search for Sutton led to several Leavenworth County school lockdowns on Friday and cancellation of some outside activities planned for elementary students.
