ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. _ The Royals, as expected, activated outfielder Coco Crisp from the bereavement list prior to Thursday’s series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.
Crisp missed the last three days _ two games _ while on leave following the death of his great grandmother.
The Royals cleared space for Crisp’s return by optioning infielder Tug Hulett to Class AAA Omaha. Hulett was hitless in four at-bats while playing in five of nine games following his May 23 recall.
Crisp is batting .233 with a .344 on-base percentage in 44 games but hasn’t played since May 26 because of a sore right shoulder. He leads the club with 11 steals and leads the American League with five triples.
