Ramp on southbound I-29/35 to close today and stay closed for a year

Big road closure news this morning.

The ramp from southbound I-29/35 to the Paseo and Independence Avenue will close for about a year starting sometime shortly after 8:30 this morning.

Highway crews will start grading work under the Paseo ramp so they can build a new ramp for drivers to access northbound I-35 at that location. The ramp from northbound Paseo to I-29/35 closed last August and won’t reopen until 2010. The work is part of the project to build a new Paseo Bridge and widen I-29/35 to three lanes in each direction.

There will be a marked detour to get around today’s closure. Motorists are advised to get off the interstate at the Oak/Grand/Walnut Street exit (2F) and take the Oak Street exit ramp up to Admiral Boulevard. At the light, motorists should turn east onto Admiral Boulevard and take Admiral to Paseo Boulevard where they will turn north to reach Independence Avenue/Route 24.

For motorists taking the southbound alternate Missouri River route from Burlington Avenue/Route 9, they will continue south to Admiral Boulevard. and turn east to Paseo Boulevard, then north to reach the Independence Avenue intersection.
