The Big 12 got a record eight teams in the NCAA Tournament, including one _ Oklahoma State _ that didn’t quality for the conference tournament last weekend.
Missouri, Kansas State and Kansas are all hitting the road for regional play. The Tigers are a No. 2 seed in the Oxford, Miss., Regional and will meet Sun Belt champion Western Kentucky. Mississippi and Monmouth also are in the regional.
Kansas State’s first NCAA appearance takes the Wildcats to Rice, where they’ll meet Xavier. K-State is a No. 2 seed. Rice is the top seed and Southern the No. 4.
The Jayhawks are headed to Chapel Hill, N.C., as a No. 3 seed. Kansas takes on Coastal Carolina with North Carolina and Dartmouth filling out the bracket.
Texas and Oklahoma are playing host to regionals with the Sooners taking on Wichita State in an opening game.Also in the field _ Texas A&M, Baylor and Oklahoma State. The Cowboys finished ninth in the Big 12 and didn’t make the tournament last weekend in Oklahoma City.
All regionals begin on Friday, and the survivors of the 16 four-team events are paired up in the Super Regional round beginning June 5. Those eight winners advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., beginning on June 13.
