Topeka man convicted in 2007 slaying

TOPEKA | A Topeka man has been convicted for his role in the August 2007 killing of another man.

Shawnee County jurors deliberated three hours Wednesday before finding 20-year-old Antonio Armstrong guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of 39-year-old James D. “J.D.” Dyer Jr.

Dyer died after being shot in a west-central Topeka home.

Armstrong also was convicted of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon.

Armstrong had been allowed to deliver his own closing argument instead of having his defense attorney make the remarks.

Sentencing is set for June 11.

Three other co-defendants are awaiting trial on similar charges.
