Former K-State player Patton arrested on battery charge

MANHATTAN, Kan. | Former Kansas State University running back Leon Patton is free on bond after his arrest on a battery charge.

Authorities say Patton was arrested and jailed in Manhattan Sunday. He was later released on $500 bond. Patton is awaiting trial on child abuse charges for allegedly shaking his infant son in July.

He was suspended indefinitely from the football team on the day after his Sept. 18 arrest on the child abuse charge.

Patton was already on probation after a July traffic stop led to the discovery of two outstanding warrants. A background check found warrants for the 2007 theft of two video games at a Wal-Mart and a failure-to-appear charge on an unpaid parking ticket in Manhattan.

He was also cited for driving with a suspended license.
