Missouri man accused of killing family to undergo evaluation

SPRINGFIELD | A hearing for a man charged with killing his wife and baby at their home in southwest Missouri is on hold as he's evaluated by mental health professionals.

A preliminary hearing on Monday was canceled.

Thirty-one-year-old Dan Allen Andrews' public defender, Linda McKinney, had filed a request for Andrews to be evaluated by the Missouri Department of Mental Health.

Andrews is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and armed criminal action for allegedly stabbing to death his wife, 24-year-old Mary Burchell, and 9-month old son, Tayler Andrews, in March.

The state has 60 days to file a report on Andrews' competency to stand trial.

A case review is set for July 7.
