Sebelius formally resigns as Kansas governor following confirmation to Cabinet

Kathleen Sebelius has formally resigned as Kansas governor, minutes after the U.S. Senate confirmed her as the nation's top health official.

Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson will be sworn in as Kansas' 45th governor at 7 p.m. tonight in the Statehouse, the governor's office said.

Parkinson will be sworn in by state Supreme Court Chief Justice Bob Davis.

There is no word yet on when Sebelius will be sworn in as secretary of health and human services.
