"Continuing claims," the government label for people getting unemployment, continue to rise and now are at a record 6.137 million. That figure, released this morning, was up 93,000 from a week ago.
The number of new jobless claims filed was up 27,000, to 640,000 -- about what analysts were expecting.
The four-week average for new claims, less volatile than the weekly figures, did decline by 4,000, to 647,000.
