Ex-KU worker gets 1-month jail term for thefts

LAWRENCE | A former University of Kansas employee is serving a one-month jail term after pleading guilty to stealing thousands of dollars worth of equipment from campus buildings.

Prosecutors said 56-year-old Robert Lee Sample was also ordered to spend one year on probation for three felony theft counts and was ordered to pay $18,650 in restitution. He was arrested last year in the theft of cameras, computers, cleaning items and musical instruments.

At the time, authorities suspected Sample of stealing $31,000 worth of items from 2004 to 2008.

Sample was a building systems technician when he was fired in September after 18 years of service at the university.
