KCP&L adds crews to restore power

Kansas City Power & Light has called in more crews to help restore power to a small number of residents in the KC area still without it.

Fewer than 400 customers in Jackson and Johnson counties are in the dark. But crews have been assigned to the majority of those outages, said Ione Villegas, a utility spokeswoman.

Saturday’s storm of ice and snow wiped out power to more than 11,000 KCP&L customers across the Kansas City area. Forty crews worked through the night to address the outages, said Villegas.

One complication came this morning as snow and ice on the trees began to melt.

"That caused branches to snap and hit more lines," she said.
