Royals option Lowery, Ka'aihue to Omaha

SURPRISE, Ariz. | The Royals optioned first baseman Kila Ka’aihue and right-handed pitcher Devon Lowery to Class AAA Omaha before Friday night’s spring training game against the Dodgers.

Ka’aihue was the Royals’ minor league player of the year after hitting .314 with 37 home runs and 100 RBIs in 124 games at Class AA Northwest Arkansas and Omaha last year. He hit .286 a homer in 21 at bats for Kansas City last year as a September call-up.

Lowery, another September call-up, was 1-1 with a 2.12 ERA in 31 appearances and 59 1/3 innings for Omaha last year, and gave up five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings in Kansas City.

With the moves, the Royals have 48 players remaining in big league camp.
