GE Transportation cuts jobs in Grain Valley

GE Transportation Systems Global Signaling will lay off up to 50 employees at its Grain Valley plant next month.

GE Transportation makes railroad signaling equipment at the area facility. Prior to GE's acquisition of the operation in 2000, the company was known as Harmon Industries.

"In response to challenging market conditions, cost pressures, overcapacity and shifting customer demographics, the company announced workforce reductions affecting up to 50 employees in Grain Valley," said GE Transportation spokesman Stephan Koller in a statement.
