St. Joseph man convicted of online child enticement

ST. JOSEPH | A St. Joseph man has been convicted of enticing a minor on the Internet and two counts of attempting to commit statutory sodomy with a 13-year-old girl.

Thirty-one-year-old Jeffrey Davies could serve up to 25 years in prison. He's free on bond pending a March 30 sentencing hearing in Buchanan County District Court.

Authorities and a college intern posed as a young girl in a chat room, where Davies sought her out. Davies discussed graphic sexual acts with the "girl" and was arrested after arranging a rendezvous with her in June 2006.

Davies testified that he searched for adult females from St. Joseph for Internet sex, and also met women for actual sexual encounters.

Davies -- a civil engineer -- and other witnesses testified that he was active in his church. He offered no explanation or remorse for the crimes.
