SURPRISE, Ariz. | The Royals reached a one-year agreement Tuesday night with first baseman Mike Jacobs believed to be worth $3.275 million.
The contract cancels the need for a salary-arbitration hearing Wednesday in Phoenix. The negotiated deal falls midway between Jacobs’ request for $3.8 million and the Royals’ offer of $2.75 million.
Jacobs, 28, hit 32 homers last season for Florida while batting .247 and driving in 93 runs in 141 games. The Royals obtained him in an Oct. 30 trade for reliever Leo Nuñez.
