K-State's Clemente suspended for tonight's game

Kansas State basketball player Denis Clemente was suspended by coach Frank Martin for tonight’s nonconference game against North Carolina-Central.

Clemente was called for a technical foul after elbowing Kansas’ Brady Morningstar in Saturday’s loss to the Jayhawks, and Clemente also slapped KU’s Tyrel Reed in the head after a free throw, though that was not caught by officials.

“I am very sorry for my actions on Saturday,” Clemente said in a statement released by K-State sports information. “I understand that I let my emotions get the best of me and, more importantly, I let my team down.”

In the statement, Martin said, “Denis is a very passionate and competitive young man who knows he made a mistake. His actions on Saturday are not acceptable and he has to do a better job of maintaining his composure. Denis is the leader of this basketball team and we are 100-percent supportive of him during this time.”

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe said in the statement that he was satisfied with Clemente’s punishment and intimated no other punishment was coming from the conference.
