Former Pike County sheriff picked for parole board

JEFFERSON CITY | Gov. Jay Nixon appoints the former Pike County sheriff to a spot on the state Board of Probation and Parole.

Democrat Jimmie Lee Wells had served as sheriff from 1989 through 2008. But he lost a re-election bid last year to Republican Stephen Korte.

Wells’ term on the parole board is to run until Feb. 16, 2015.

The board is responsible for determining whether prisoners should be paroled and for supervising people on probation and parole.
