RUSSELL, Kan. | A high school teacher in Russell County made her first court appearance on charges that she had a sexual relationship with a male student.
Lucas-Luray High School English teacher Nina Urban is free on $10,000 bond after Thursday's hearing on a charge of unlawful sexual relations. Her lawyer said a preliminary hearing will be set at a later date.
Urban turned herself in to local authorities and posted bond on Jan. 29. She was arrested after the student's parents told sheriff's investigators that their son and Urban had been having a sexual relationship.
Superintendent David Couch said Urban is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. He said she was in her third year of teaching at the school.
