WASHINGTON | President Barack Obama has approved a request for a federal emergency declaration in Missouri.
Obama signed the declaration Friday after talking to Gov. Jay Nixon. It will allow federal aid to begin flowing to Missouri communities working to clean up from the winter storm that hit earlier this week.
An onslaught of ice, snow and freezing drizzle left well more than 100,000 Missouri homes and businesses without power. The number of outages had shrunk to about 87,000 by Friday night.
Obama previously declared federal emergencies for Arkansas and Kentucky, making them eligible for federal funds.
