Endorsements start in Kansas congressional race

TOPEKA, Kan. | Two Republican candidates for the congressional seat being vacated by Kansas Rep. Jerry Moran are picking up endorsements.

Rob Wasinger, who's from Hays and former chief-of-staff for Sen. Sam Brownback, announced Friday that he was endorsed by former GOP presidential hopeful Fred Thompson.

Another 1st District candidate, Sen. Tim Huelskamp of Fowler, has been endorsed by the Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, which calls itself the nation's largest public policy women's organization.

Huelskamp first was elected to the Kansas Senate in 1996 and is one of the leading conservatives in the chamber.

Moran announced in November that he'll be running for the Senate in 2010.
