COLUMBIA, Mo. | A small-town Texas lawman and a Kansas City police major are finalists for the job as Columbia's top cop.
Chief Ken Burton of Haltom City, Texas, and Major Christine Laughlin from the Kansas City Police Department are the remaining finalists. City leaders had selected four finalists earlier this month but narrowed the list Friday.
Burton spent most of his career in Arlington, Texas, and spent two years as chief in Bryan, Texas, before taking the top job in Haltom City in 2003.
Laughlin has worked in Kansas City since 1983, her entire police career. If hired, she would be Columbia's first female police chief.
