After only four starts in his first season at Missouri, junior-college transfer Keith Ramsey seems to have arrived.
“He’s long, he’s athletic, he’s making guys shoot over him,” said MU Coach Mike Anderson. “He’s chasing offensive boards. He’s a guy who can handle the basketball.”
Voters who hand out weekly Big 12 Conference basketball honors agree. On Monday they picked the junior MU forward the Big 12's Newcomer of the Week.
Ramsey is the first MU player honored with a league award this season. It comes after he averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, and shot 56.3 percent (nine of 16) from the field last week in victories over Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
“I just see him getting more and more aggressive in a lot of different areas,” Anderson said. “He should be an impact player. Now you’ve got another blue-collar guy.”
Missouri -- 17-3 overall and 4-1 in the league -- goes for its first victory at Kansas State since 2004 on Wednesday night.
