Beer and a haircut? State looking into St. Joseph salon

State liquor authorities are investigating a St. Joseph hair salon for men that gives customers a free beer while they wait for a haircut.

Knockouts Haircuts for Men does not have a liquor license, so police referred a complaint to the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control. Division supervisor Mike Schler confirmed the investigation was under way.

Schler said there are multiple barbershops and salons in Missouri that legally offer free alcohol as part of their amenities, but they have liquor licenses.

An all-female staff of stylists -- “Knockout Girls” -- cut hair, shampoo, even manicure at individual stations.

Manager Mindy Gray said she doesn’t like to hear the salon called the “Hooters of Haircuts,” instead preferring to call it a fun departure from discount haircut salons.
