LAWRENCE | Travelers won't be able to refuel, eat or shop at the convenience store in Kansas Turnpike service area near Lawrence until July.
The EZ Go Store is closing for reconstruction, shutting off a supply of food, fuel and collectibles during the next six months for a $3.7 million rebuilding project. A McDonald's restaurant at the service area will remain open during construction.
EZ Go group owner Carey Johnson said the business closed Monday for a "raze and rebuild" project that will triple the size of the store. The project adds bathrooms and fixtures and raises the number of fueling stations from eight to 24.
Johnson's company is financing most of the project, just as it did for a new convenience store at the turnpike's Belle Plaine Service area south of Wichita.
