An Independence woman pleaded guilty today to murder in the death of a woman whose sexual torture and suffocation were videotaped.
In a deal with prosecutors that allows her to avoid the death penalty, 42-year-old Dena Riley pleaded guilty in the May 2006 killing of 41-year-old Marsha Spicer of Independence. Spicer was suffocated during sex at an Independence apartment that Riley shared with her boyfriend.
In all, Riley pleaded guilty to 26 charges in Spicer's death and in a separate videotaped attack on 36-year-old Michelle Huff-Ricci of Kansas City.
Huff-Ricci's remains were found in Clay County, where Riley and her boyfriend, Richard Davis, are charged with capital murder.
