The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art has been singled out for its ArtReach children’s program by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.
The museum is one of 50 semifinalists out of a pool of more than 300 nominations for a national “Coming Up Taller” award for youth arts and humanities programs.
ArtReach, a collaborative program between the Kemper and the Center for Child Health and Development at KU Med Center, features workshops for children with and without developmental disabilities. Each session focuses on works of art displayed at the museum.
The winners will be announced later this year. Each will receive a plaque, a $10,000 award and the opportunity to participate in a Coming Up Taller Leadership Enhancement Conference in Washington, D.C. in August.
