Missouri baseball to open NCAA tournament in Florida

Missouri opens NCAA Tournament play Friday at Coral Gables, Fla., where the Tigers will take on Mississippi.

Missouri, which finished fourth in the Big 12, is a second seed and the Rebels the No. 3 seed in the regional that also includes host Miami and Bethune-Cookman.

The winners of the double-elimination regionals advance to the following week’s super regional round, which are best-of-three series to determine the eight teams for the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The 64-team field announced Monday includes 16 regional sites. Three Big 12 schools are hosts: Nebraska, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys’ regional includes Wichita State.

Notably absent from this year’s field is two-time defending champion Oregon State. The Beavers finished the season with a 28-24 record.
