SURPRISE, Ariz. _ The suspension of Royals catcher Miguel Olivo was reduced Thursday from five games to four games as the result of an appeal.
The suspension stemmed from an on-field fight last September while Olivo was a member of the Florida Marlins.
The ruling means Olivo will miss a three-game series in Detroit, which begins Monday, and the first opener of a three-game series in Minnesota. He is eligible to return April 5 in Minnesota.
The Royals will be limited to a 24-man roster, instead of the usual 25, while Olivo serves his suspension. Rookie Matt Tupman is expected to serve as the backup catcher to John Buck in Olivo’s absence.
