Wizards select UCLA player with first pick in MLS draft

The Wizards used their first-ever No. 1 overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft to select UCLA midfielder/defender Chance Myers.

Myers recently completed his sophomore season with the Bruins before choosing to leave school and enter MLS’s Generation adidas development program. As a Generation adidas player, Myers’ salary will not count against the Wizards’ salary cap.

Myers, 20, received first-team all-Pac 10 Conference honors last fall. He was a U.S. starter at the 2007 Pan American Games and recently was called into camp for the U.S. Under-23 National Team which is preparing for the final qualifying round for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Myers is being looked at as an outside right midfielder for the Wizards.

With their natural first-round pick, 11th overall, the Wizards selected Roger Espinoza, another Generation adidas player who recently completed his collegiate career at Ohio State, which made the NCAA College Cup final back in November.
