LAWRENCE | Kansas left tackle Anthony Collins decided on Monday to join close friend and KU teammate Aqib Talib and declare for the NFL draft early, Collins’ father, Harold, told The Star on Monday afternoon.“My son declared, he entered the draft,” Harold Collins said.

KU associate athletic director Chris Howard, who has been mentoring Collins and Talib through the process, told The Star that Collins was projected by the NFL Draft Advisory Board to go early in the third round. Harold Collins would not give any reasons for his son’s decision to forgo his senior year at Kansas. Anthony Collins could not be reached for comment.

Collins, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, was a lightly-recruited player out of high school who had only played one season of organized football before coming to Kansas. According to his father, he will finish his career as an Associated Press first-team All-American and Outland Trophy finalist.
