Nebraska fired football coach Bill Callahan this morning.
Interim athletic director Tom Osborne announced at a news conference that a search will begin immediately, and it may have started before Saturday. The Lincoln Journal-Star reported on its Web site that a search firm representing the university has already contacted LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini.
Callahan’s four-year tenure ended with Friday’s 65-51 loss at Colorado. Nebraska’s season ended at 5-7, and Callahan’s record as the Cornhuskers’ coach ends at 27-22.
Others who may be search targets: Buffalo coach Turner Gill, Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe and Navy coach Paul Johnson.
