Woman suffers life-threating injuries in hit-and-run accident

A 25-year-old female pedestrian suffered life threatening injures this morning after being struck in a hit-and-run accident along 119th and Metcalf streets.

Police were summoned to the accident around 2:16 a.m. The accident it occurred in the westbound lanes of 119th Street, between Metcalf and Glenwood streets, Overland Park Police spokesman Jim Weaver said.

The accident and investigation closed westbound 119th Street in the area until almost 8 a.m.

The pedestrian, who is a Smithville resident, either was crossing from southbound to northbound or was walking in the lane when she was struck, Weaver said. The victim’s condition was not available.

The driver fled before officers arrived.

Police are looking for a light-colored sedan with front-end damage and severe radiator fluid linkage. The vehicle was last seen traveling westbound on 119th Street, Weaver said.
