Authorities are investigating a possible arson in Shawnee that damaged four cars this morning.
The fire was reported about 3:30 a.m. at the Carlyle Apartments near 75th Street and Quivira Road. Investigators said the blaze started in a yellow Ford Mustang Convertible and spread to the other three vehicles. The Mustang and two other vehicles were destroyed the fourth was badly damaged.
A 16-unit apartment building at 11709 W. 76th Street was evacuated briefly as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.
No other property was damaged.
Fire officials said they are looking at the case as a possible arson rather than a malfunction with the Mustang partly because the car was parked and had not been running for three to four hours.
