A man was shot early today after he tried to help a woman involved in an altercation with a man.
The victim was hit in the torso and admitted into a hospital, where he is expected to survive, police said.
The shooting occurred about 3 a.m. in the parking lot of a dance club at 31st Street and Southwest Boulevard. Police said the club had closed and customers were filtering outside. That's when four men saw a man assaulting a woman.
"They were basically good Samaritans and they went over to help her," said homicide Sgt. Keith Kirchhoff.
The man who was allegedly assaulting a woman had several friends with him and one of them pulled a gun, Kirchhoff said.
Nearby police officers were able to respond quickly to the shooting scene. The officers arrested the man who allegedly was assaulting the woman and three of his friends. Police also picked up the victim's friends. Detectives were interviewing them this morning.
