COLUMBIA | A Boone County jury has awarded $1.8 million in a personal injury lawsuit filed by the parents of a University of Missouri student severely injured in a 2005 bicycle accident.
Cyclist Krysten Chambrot was crossing College Avenue on Aug. 18, 2005, when she was hit by a car and thrown from her bicycle. A city of Columbia utilities truck then hit and dragged Chambrot.
The jury found Chambrot 75 percent at fault. It found the city and the man driving the city truck 13 percent at fault and a woman who drove the first car 12 percent at fault.
The jury deliberated for 10 hours before returning its verdict late Tuesday night.
The accident caused injuries that required the amputation of Chambrot's left leg above the knee.
