LAWRENCE | Kansas basketball received its first oral commitment of the 2009 recruiting class on Thursday night when five-star power forward Thomas Robinson gave his pledge to the Jayhawks.
"I just felt more at home with the players and the coaches at Kansas,” Robinson said. “I felt comfortable. I felt like this is the best decision for me.”
Robinson, who is from Washington, D.C., but attends Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., picked KU over Memphis. Robinson visited Kansas on Sept. 19 and was in attendance for the Jayhawks’ ring ceremony that commemorated the 2008 national championship. KU immediately became the leader for Robinson in the days after. He visited Memphis last weekend, but did not change his mind.
"It was amazing to see those players be rewarded for winning last year,” Robinson said, “and to actually see some of those guys was incredible. I have been a fan of Brandon Rush for a long time now.”
