Former Nebraska football player arrested on murder charge

Former Nebraska running back Thunder Collins was arrested Wednesday in Omaha, Neb., in connection with the Tuesday slaying of a man.

An arrest warrant issued Wednesday accuses Collins of first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He also faces felony weapons charges.

Collins, 29, played for the Cornhuskers from 2000-2002. He quit the program during his senior year in 2002 after he was suspended for four games for violation of team rules.

His best season came in 2001 when he rushed for 647 yards and five touchdowns and caught 19 passes for 189 yards.

Collins played briefly in the Canadian Football League after leaving Nebraska. He makes his home in Lincoln, Neb.
