Lightning strike suspected as cause of Overland Park fire

Overland Park firefighters responded this morning to a fire at a six-plex that they suspect started with a lightning strike.

They quickly put out a blaze there in a laundry room in the 10400 block of Garnett Street, a department spokesman said, but were still finding minor fires or smoldering at other places about 9 a.m. That pattern often suggests lightning has hit and traveled through a building, he said.

Damage was estimated at $75,000.
