K-State running back kicked off team after arrest in child abuse case

Leon Patton, a junior running back at Kansas State serving an indefinite suspension, was arrested Thursday afternoon by Riley County Police on a warrant for child abuse.

Friday morning, K-State announced Patton had been dismissed from the team.

The victim is a 4-month-old male. The warrant arose from an investigation of an incident that occurred in mid-July in Manhattan.

Patton, who was arrested in early July on warrants for theft and failure to appear, is being held on $30,000 bond.

In a release, Riley County Police Department spokesman Lt. Kurt Moldrup said due to the nature of the charges and at the Riley County Attorney’s insistence, no other information about the Patton’s arrest will be released.
