RICHMOND, Va. | Jimmie Johnson held off Tony Stewart to win Sunday’s Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Speedway, but it was Clint Bowyer who may have won a bigger victory.
Bowyer finished 12th in the race but hung on to the 12th and final berth in the 10-driver Chase to the Sprint Cup Championship playoff, which starts next week in New Hampshire.
Bowyer needed a late-race run to hold on to the berth and also needed a late fade by David Ragan, who was in 13th place when the race started.
Ragan wound up 14th in points as he was passed by Kasey Kahne, who finished 19th in the race. Ragan finished 22nd in the race.
