Gibbs Racing makes it official: Logano to take over No. 20 Sprint Cup car

Joe Gibbs Racing announced that 18-year-old Joey Logano will take the job that has been Tony Stewart’s for the last 10 years -- driver of the No. 20 Sprint Cup car.

The long-rumored move was made at a press conference in North Carolina on Monday.

The team announced that Home Depot would remain the car’s primary sponsor.

Logano will take over the job at the beginning of the 2009 season. He also is planning to run a full Nationwide series schedule in '09 for Gibbs.

Logano, who has raced in 10 Nationwide races this season, will ease into the full-time Cup job as he will drive a Gibbs car in the series at selected races this season. He will make his debut at Richmond International Raceway next weekend.

In his limited Nationwide experience this year, he has won a race, has won two poles and has seven top-10 finishes.

Stewart, a two-time Sprint Cup champion, announced earlier this summer that he was leaving the Gibbs team to become co-owner of his own team.
