Two Kansas City Toys R Us stores will open at 12:01 a.m. Saturday to sell the latest “Star Wars” toys.

The Overland Park store at 11620 W. 95th and the Kansas City store at 8330 N. Broadway will open their doors early Saturday to peddle the latest action figures from the upcoming animated movie, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

Officials at the Broadway location said they didn’t know what toys would be available on Saturday (the store wasn’t scheduled to have the toys in the store until Thursday).

But Bob Friedland, public relations manager for Toys R Us, said there will be action figures, vehicles and LEGO sets. Friedland said Hasbro also is releasing a Clone Trooper helmet with a voice modulator. A similar Darth Vader helmet was released several years ago and became a hard-to-find item at Christmas time.

Friedland said there was no set time when fans could line up for the toys, but he said the “official” line for the store in New York’s Times Square was 2 p.m.

At the local Broadway store, a representative said the store would close at 9 p.m. on Friday, but fans could line up anytime before midnight.

As an extra incentive, Toys R Us is offering an exclusive hologram General Grievous figure or “Clone Wars” poster with a purchase of $30 or more.

The film opens Aug. 15 and will lead into an animated series on the Cartoon Network. It’s the start of a big fall for Star Wars fans. The new video game, “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed,” is scheduled to be released Sept. 16.
