ArtsKC Fund announces $574,000 in arts grants

The ArtsKC Fund has announced its 2008 grants to arts organizations and art programs.

Twenty established arts organizations received $413,425 in Ovation Grants, which are earmarked for operating expenses.

Forty-five smaller arts projects and programs received $160,737 in the Catalyst category.

The grants are funded through an annual workplace giving campaign similar to the United Way, as well as by contributions from individual, corporate and municipal donors. This year’s workplace giving campaign received a $100,000 matching grant from the Francis Family Foundation

This is the second round of Ovation and Catalyst grants to be awarded since the program began in 2007. Paul Tyler, ArtsKC Fund grants director, reports that the current list of grantees includes 20 organizations that are receiving funding for the first time.

The ArtsKC fund raised a total of $731,705 during its spring campaign from Feb. 1 to April 30, 2008. This year’s grants budget includes$32,353 in Inspiration grants to artists and arts professionals, which are awarded in spring, summer and fall.
