Golfer Tom Watson, winner of eight major titles on the regular tour, carded a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday at Milburn Golf & Country Club and leads the Watson Challenge by 1 stroke.
Watson leads former Bishop Miege standout Chris Mabry, who went on to play at Missouri. Mabry was the only other player to shoot at least par with his score of 72. Three players, defending champion Blake Graham, Mike Tanner and Todd Loechler, each shot 73.
Watson, recorded two birdies and one bogey in his round, which like everyone else was tested by southerly gusts up to 30 mph.
The 54-hole event, composed of a field of 48 pros and amateurs, continues at 7:30 a.m. Sunday. The final round is Monday.
