Tornado watch covers southeast Kansas, much of Missouri

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 4 a.m. Friday for a broad area of the Midwest. The watch area includes southeast Kansas, much of western, central and northern Missouri, and western Illinois.

Tornadoes, large hail, wind gusts to 80 miles per hour and dangerous lightning are possible.

The watch area, which includes the entire Kansas City metropolitan area, extends 95 miles east and west of a line from 30 MILES west southwest of Joplin, Mo., to 40 MILES northeast of Kirksville, Mo.
