Maytag Warranty Review
By Rebecca Parson MONEY RESEARCH COLLECTIVE
A malfunction to a major appliance or home system can upend your daily life and throw you off your budget. That’s especially true for an expensive repair for which you don’t have enough saved up. Getting home warranty coverage can protect you from some of these unforeseen expenses.
Home warranties are service contracts homeowners can purchase from warranty providers. The contract lists the appliances, home systems and key components eligible for repair or replacement with limited out-of-pocket costs to you.
Appliance manufacturer Maytag also offers warranties, but only for its own appliances. Read our complete Maytag warranty review for pros and cons of buying an extended warranty for a Maytag appliance from the company. We also give details on cost, coverage and customer reviews.
Maytag warranties overview
Owned by Whirlpool Corporation, Maytag is a leading appliance company founded in 1911. Its systems and appliances include laundry and kitchen devices and central heating and cooling systems.
All Maytag appliances made after 2017 come with a free manufacturer’s warranty that includes one year’s coverage of parts and labor and 10 years of limited parts coverage. You can verify whether your appliance comes with a warranty on Maytag’s warranty page by entering the appliance item number, provided you’ve registered the product.
The focus of this review, though, is the extra-cost Maytag extended warranty that covers the company’s appliances above and beyond the factory warranty runs.
This financial product promises to cover the cost of repairing breakdowns caused by normal wear and tear. Maytag’s extended-warranty offering has both strengths and weaknesses, as this rundown reflects.
| PROS | CONS |
| No-lemon policy reimburses you for problem-prone appliances | Doesn’t cover many appliance parts |
| Cash reimbursements available | Doesn’t cover a wide range of appliances |
| Single-appliance coverage available | Service can be slow |
Maytag extended warranty coverage
The company offers the Maytag Ultimate 10-Year Warranty as a premium version of its factory 10-year warranty. You need to register your appliance with Maytag to receive the Maytag 10-year warranty, and pay a fee that varies according to the type of appliance and the length of additional labor coverage you choose.
Some of the benefits of the Maytag Ultimate 10-Year Warranty include:
- Up to five years of labor coverage, rather than the one year coverage in the free factory warranty
- Up to 10 years of labor coverage for commercial-grade washer and dryer pairs.
- Maytag’s “no lemon policy” reimburses you if the same part of the same product malfunctions on at least four separate occasions
- Partial pay option allows customers to pay in installments
- Ability to transfer the Maytag warranty registration to someone else if you give away or sell the appliance
- Free cancellation up to 60 days after purchase
- A build-your-own plan that includes multiple Maytag products at a discount
- Access to factory-certified parts and technicians
- Food Spoilage Protection available for an additional $250 per year
Maytag’s No Lemon Policy guarantees that if you’ve had to file three different claims on the same part of an appliance, Maytag will replace or reimburse you for the appliance on the fourth claim. Note that this doesn’t apply to repairs needed while the manufacturer’s warranty is still in effect.
For older appliances, the reimbursement amount will be less than for new ones. But, since a new appliance can cost thousands of dollars, the following reimbursement rates under the no-lemon guarantee can still be worthwhile:
- Appliances 1-5 years old: 75% of the original purchase price of the appliance.
- Appliances 6-10 years old: 45% of the original purchase price of the covered product.
- Appliances 11-15 years old: 25% of the original purchase price of the covered product.
What the Maytag warranty offers
Maytag appliance warranties only covers parts of registered appliances, which may include any of the following:
- Washer, dryer (including gas dryer): drive motor, wash basket, dryer drum
- Dishwasher: stainless steel tub, nylon racks, chopper
- Cooktop, range, wall oven: cooktop burners and elements, ceramic top and grates, bake and broil elements and burners, cavity
- Refrigerator: compressor
- Microwave: magnetron, cavity
- Compactor: motor, ram, screws
What it doesn’t offer
While you’ll want to check your warranty for details, be aware of items that Maytag’s coverage typically excludes. These include:
- Service costs related to the improper appliance or system installation and reinstallation (think fuses, wiring and plumbing).
- Consumable parts that regularly go out and must be replaced, such as light bulbs, air filters, water filters, gaskets and batteries.
- Repair costs for appliances used commercially, such as a shared appliance in a duplex or multifamily unit.
- Damage from accidents, alteration, fire, flood and damage from other environmental circumstances. These types of incidents are instead covered by homeowners insurance or by separate policies for particular risks — like flood or earthquake insurance.
- Cosmetic damage like scratches, chipped paint and dents.
- Spoiled food due to an appliance failure, unless you’ve purchased the additional Food Spoilage Protection plan.
- The cost of repairing appliances outside the home.
- Travel expenses for a Maytag authorized service technician to come to your home if you live in a remote area. In those situations, it may be more cost-effective to forego a Maytag warranty and, instead, budget to pay for repairs out of pocket.
- Used appliances whose serial number has been altered or removed or have been subject to unauthorized modifications.

What are customers saying about their Maytag warranty?
Maytag is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) but has an A+ rating. Common complaints include the machines breaking down quickly, poor service when calling to file claims and service repair delays.
On Trustpilot, Maytag warranty reviews are also negative, with some reviewers noting that the warranty didn’t cover the broken parts. On Sitejabber, Maytag has a rating of 1.92 stars based on 60 reviews.
Maytag Warranty FAQ
Are there any exclusions?
There are some exclusions to Maytag extended warranties. Expenses for damages resulting from equipment alternation or other circumstances beyond Maytag's control — such as theft, vandalism, fire, flood and power failure — won't be covered by the company. Additionally, the contract doesn't cover damage resulting from poor ventilation, improper storage or mismatched components. The Maytag extended warranties also doesn't cover appliances over 15 years old.
How do I submit a claim?
To submit a Maytag warranty claim, call 866-265-0029 and speak with a customer service agent at the Maytag warranty department. The agent will ask you for the appliance's model, serial number and original purchase date, so be sure to have those on hand. An authorized service technician will diagnose and repair the appliance at a scheduled appointment.
According to Maytag's sample service contract, services will be rendered once the contract is paid in full. It's unclear whether this means that customers with partial pay plans, meaning those paid in installments at specified dates, aren't eligible to file claims (or get reimbursed for repair services) before paying their plan in full. Speak with a representative about this clause if you're not purchasing a service plan upfront.
There is also a 60-day waiting period before coverage kicks in for those who let their appliances' manufacturer warranties (or third-party extended warranties) lapse before purchasing Maytag's extended service plan. Any claims submitted before or during the waiting period will be considered pre-existing conditions not covered under the agreement.
If your appliance is irreparable, Maytag will take one of two actions:
- Exchange your appliance for one with comparable functionality and features.
- Reimburse you up to the original price of the appliance.
How long are the Maytag warranties?
You can use the Maytag warranty lookup page to get more details, but every Maytag appliance comes with a 10-year limited warranty. You can pay to add more coverage or go with a third-party warranty provider.
How we evaluated Maytag
We evaluated the Maytag customer service warranty and appliance warranties based on various factors, including price and coverage. We also considered the company’s reputation over its years in business, shortcomings and online customer reviews.
Summary of the Maytag extended warranty review
In addition to the 10-year limited warranty, Maytag offers a bonus warranty that covers labor for up to the first five years on its appliances. Coverage for commercial-grade in-home laundry pairs (washer and dryer) extends to parts and labor for the first five years and limited parts for 10 years.
Although a Maytag warranty covers certain appliances, it does not offer comprehensive coverage for the normal range of appliances typically found in a home. Maytag also limits coverage to appliances less than 15 years old.
Another drawback of opting for a Maytag warranty is that, while you can get up to 10% off, you must buy separate service plans to cover multiple appliances. If you’re looking for a comprehensive home warranty that protects a wide range of appliances and home systems and covers different brands, you may be better served with a different warranty provider.
